What was there

Anyone in Malatya following the gold price either asked a jeweller or kept refreshing the chamber's page. There was no way to check it on a phone or hear about a change.

The price data is already published by the chamber of jewellers. The job was to process it continuously and show it on the website and in the app at the same time.

How I built it

Prices are never typed in by hand. The chamber's published prices are read at regular intervals and their Turkish number formats converted before saving. If the source layout changes, the job fails loudly instead of quietly writing wrong data.

Live market sources are also read for the ounce and pure gold rates, so there is still a current reference outside trading hours.

Instead of polling, the price screen is fed by an open connection from the server and updates itself when a value changes.

The address of the data source lives in the server settings, not in the code.

The app is built from a single codebase for both iPhone and Android.

After a notification is sent its result is checked separately, because a send can look successful while the notification never reaches the phone.

What I did

• Processing the prices at regular intervals, storing them and keeping their history.
• The website: gram, quarter, half, full, bracelet and silver prices, a daily summary, a gold calculator and jeweller directory pages.
• The app (Malatya Altın): the price list, item detail with a chart, the daily view, the calculator, portfolio tracking and price alerts.
• The service that sends a notification when an alert triggers, and the checks on whether it arrived.
• The panel: sending notifications, ad slots, a daily report, visitor analytics and a service health check.
• Registering both app stores, privacy declarations, store images and a closed testing round.
